Happy Day AFTER Valentine’s Day Beauties!  I hope you all had a fun-filled day yesterday!  Regardless of whether or not you had a “Valentine” or significant other, I hope you enjoyed just being you!  There’s SO MANY wonderful things about you!  Whenever you get down, or things aren’t going the way you need them to go, just remember that YOU have a Valentine who loves YOU more than anything!  Jesus died for YOU, because YOU were the most important thing to HIM!  He loves us more than we can possibly imagine!  How romantic is that?!

Well, I had a very good Valentine’s Day working at Aerie, and going by to see all of the beautiful ladies at my other job, Costume Curio, then coming home and my husband and I cooking a very romantic, very DELICIOUS dinner together!  My sweet husband gave me some very awesome, and unique Valentine’s gifts!  He really surprised me!  His gifts to me of course made it on my February Friday Favorites list, so here are my picks for this week of February 8-15:

I needed something to take my makeup off, and decided to try the new Flash Clean by Maybelline, and I LOVE IT!  This stuff really takes off all of my makeup quick!  It’s a lotion, but NOT greasy at all!  I use this at night, and although it says you don’t need to rise, I do follow with my Olay Fresh Effects exfoliating cleanser.  Great find!

Found this on a late night Walmart trip one night this past week, and thought it looked interesting.  It’s kind of like a light leave in conditioner, and I really like it so far!  Here’s what it says on the back of the bottle: “detangles, protects from thermal damage, prevents color fade, moisturizes, de-frizzes, adds body, softness and shine”

Revlon has some colors I’m really lovin’ right now.  I’ve had this pretty pink color on my nails for a couple of weeks now, and i’m getting ready to switch to this grayish-purple one next.  Love these!

So I had a coupon for any of the Venus razors, and saw the new Venus & Olay in Sugarberry.  With my coupon I got it for like $4 maybe?  I LOVE this razor!  With the moisture bar, you don’t really need a shave gel either, so it’s really nice when you’re in a hurry (which I usually am!)  The Sugarberry scent is nice too.

This fragrance was in my Valentine Day to Date Night video, and yes, it’s from Aerie:)  I got it this past Fall when it was new, and I think it’s the perfect going out/date night fragrance.  It’s a very sweet scent, and is supposed to have notes of “mango, freesia, and sandalwood”.  There’s actually a bra named Scarlet that came out at the same time as this fragrance.  Very subtly sexy, I think:)

IMG_0086 - Copy

In my Favorites post last week, I had this same CoverGirl jumbo gloss balm in Scarlet Twist, and THIS week I went and got 2 more (only because I had a coupon…it’s true!) so this color was my favorite this week!  It’s Watermelon Twist, and I LOVE THIS SHADE!  It’s a hot pink, but these are SO SHEER that you really have to layer it to make it look bright.  I’ve worn this color a lot this week!

This is possibly my FAVE of the favorites beauties of the week!  Not only is this rose bronzer pretty on cheeks, and festive with hearts for Valentine’s Day, but it SMELLS SO GOOD!!!  It’s by Physicians Formula, and it’s called Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Bronzer & Blush…yes, that’s a mouthful to say, but it REALLY DOES make me smile when, I use it!  It’s scented with violets.  Here’s what it says on the package: “The sweet scent of Violet provides a feeling of joy each time you apply”.  Love this:)

These seemed so appropriate for this month when I found them at Target.  They come in a set of 6, and who doesn’t NEED heart socks?!

These adorable PJs were going to be in a Valentine Night In video that I never got around to making, simply because I didn’t have time!  I’m thinking of just doing a Cozy Night In video regardless, and featuring them anyway.  They’re just too cute, and comfy!

I had posted this photo on Instagram the other day, and yes…I KNOW it’s got underthings in it…but I work at Aerie!  We have so many pretty things at Aerie, and I do LOVE my Aerie bras!  Customers come in and ask what my favorite bra is, but it’s so hard to choose just one!  Right now I have 2 favorites (really more than that) and this bra is one of them.  It’s our Harper bra.  It has memory foam (yep) pushup, and it’s super comfy (as pushup bras go:)

Here’s my other fave right now:  The Jacklyn bra.  It’s one of our newest bras that were released about 2 weeks ago, and it has a one piece molded underwire, instead of two separate ones, plus it’s probably the most LIGHT WEIGHT bra I’ve ever seen.  Oh, and FYI, we have ALL of our bras (except sports bras) 40% off right now!  Shop

Okay, so I HAD to put this in my FAVE wears!!!  THIS is one of the gifts my sweet husband gave me last night for Valentine’s Day!  A CHOCOLATE MICHAEL KORS WATCH!!!!!!!  I was so surprised, and delighted!  It’s so pretty, and has rose gold in the face as well!  Love this watch!

I’ve been drinking FUZE drinks for awhile now, and this is probably one of my fave flavors.  I love these drinks.

Probably my fave go-to cereal, when I eat cereal.  I had been craving these, and I’ve eaten them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner this week (no lie!)

DOUGHNUTS!  Not only doughnuts, but VALENTINE DOUGHNUTS!!!  ‘Nuff said.

Just LOOK at these amazingly delicious filets my husband cooked for us last night!  Plus we had salmon cakes, coconut shrimp, and purple garlic mashed potatoes (which I made:) to go with them…and biscuits…and sparkling grape juice.  Yes, it was an awesome Valentine dinner:)

Here’s songs I used in my Valentine Video. I’ve been listening to and loving them this week:

itonlytakesamomentI’m a huge fan of Hello Dolly! which came on TV this past Monday night, and I of course watched:)  This movie is one of my all time comfort movies.  It has lots of great love stories in it, plus, they use a lot of inspirations from this movie in Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom at Disney World (no wonder I love it so:)

IMG_0066 - CopyMy randoms this week are both Valentine things from my husband.  Here is the card he gave me yesterday.  It made me smile…

…and made my heart melt :)  We both say that our happy place is at Disney World TOGETHER.  I love going and visiting when I’m with my niece, or friends, but when I’m there with my husband, it really IS the best place in the world!  He said he thought this card was perfect because it reminded him of that thought.  And he was right:)

2011-09-17 19.38.40

This is from our Disney trip together back in Sept of 2011.

Husband gave me a watch, and…an OWL!  Yep, he officially adopted a Barred Owl for us through a place called the Carolina Raptor Center, not too far from where we live.  They rescue and help injured or orphaned birds of prey through rehabilitation, education and research.  It’s a pretty awesome place, and you can visit the center all throughout the year!  They have a lot to do and many birds to see.  My owl’s name is Shakespeare :)

Well, that’s it for this week’s Friday Favorites!  I’d LOVE to see you Valentine faves for this week, so share them with me on Twitter or Instagram (my Instagram name is dailyprincesslife ;)  Thanks lovelies!  See you real soon!

Stay Magical!

XOXO ~Monica

February Friday Favorites

February Friday Favorites

Hi beauties!  Since we are now a FULL week into the month of February, I have decided that I am going to do a Friday Favorites every Friday in February!  It’s the shortest month of the year, so why not make it beautiful?  I’m starting to think ahead to next month too, because I want to do something fun, spring-y, and Easter-y, AND it’s my birthday month!  So, if you beauties have any ideas, I’d love to hear them!  This week’s Friday Favorites are a round up of a few beauty, fashion, foodies, music, and some randoms :)  So, without further delay, here are my February Friday Favorites for the week of Feb 1-8:

Love this BB Cream from Rimmel!  Great coverage!

BB cream

This Rice Powder helps control shine, which I need!

I really like the new Jumbo Gloss Balms from Covergirl!  They give a great sheer pop of color without the feel of a heavy lipstick.  Also, there’s no need to sharpen them!  They roll up like lipstick, so when you need more product, just turn:)

See how sheer the color is?  This red looks great with a neutral eye!    IMG_3286

I needed more shower gel, and The Body Shop had this size on sale, so I bought 2.  So far I LOVE this smell!  Fresh strawberry!  Yum!

You guys know I LOVE LUSH!!!  I still think this scrub is one of my over-all faves.  Smell SO GOOD, and it leaves my skin feeling super soft!

I think it looks like mermaid scrub :)

I’m in LOVE with these cute bows!  Perfect hair accessory for a fun Valentine’s look!

I bought this scarf this past weekend in Charlotte at the Aerie store there.  The one I work at doesn’t carry cute things like scarves…which is sad :(  So, whenever I’m in another Aerie, I usually like to get some cute accessories!  Love the bright colors in this one!

Still love my cross bracelet from Charlotte Russe.  It came in a set of two or three I think, and I found this nice rose gold one at Pac Sun in Tennessee.

Love my new platinum Sperrys!  They go with almost everything, and SUPER comfy!

Okay, I HAVE to have my coffee in the A.M. and I usually HAVE to have a flavored creamer to go in it!  My husband suggested trying this one, and it’s SO GOOD!  I have used it just about every morning lately!

We stopped by Tevana in Charlotte on our way home this past weekend, and I tried one of the teas they had out for sample.  It was actually a mixture of these two teas, and I liked it so much, I bought some to drink at night.  These SMELL SO GOOD!  Perfect way to wind down at night!

I had been craving these!  I used to eat them when I was in college, and haven’t had them in forever!  Still one of the best Poptarts ever!

CHEESECAKE FACTORY CHEESECAKE!!!  Yes…I did just yell this at you…  We always have to stop by and have cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory when we are in a place where they have one (because sadly, we don’t have one where we live…which is probably a GOOD thing!) and this beautiful slice of chocolatey goodness above is my all time favorite!  Chocolate raspberry truffle cheesecake.  I always want to try something new, but I always end up ordering this kind!  It’s so good!

I heard this song on one of the XM channels I listen to, and had to go home and buy it!

Downton Abbey!

DowntonAbbey DowntonAbbey3_2353968b

This is my FAVORITE show right now!  I started watching on Netflix back in October, and I think I flew through seasons 1 & 2 in like… 5 nights?  Anyway, season 3 started last month, and on Sundays nights at 9 pm, you will find me glued to this show!  I LOVE the costuming, and era!  It draws on so many important events in history too (like WW1 and Women’s Suffrage Movement).

goodnight moon

Love this photo.  I’m not sure what (or if) there’s a name for it, but I call it Goodnight Moon.

Finally, here is a favorite human (hehe!)  Here is my friend Chrissie Hux!  We went to visit her and her husband, who is a youth minister, this past weekend in Charlotte, and they were both wonderful hosts!  I just had to include her in my favorites for this week, although she’s ALWAYS a favorite of mine!  She and her husband Michael Hux (mostly known as Hux) are both amazing youth ministers and good friends!  Check out Hux’s ministry, and their blog as well!

That about sums up this week’s Faves!  Let me know what YOUR favorites are right now!  I will be putting together a video at the end of the month with my collective, all around Favorites!  Stay Magical!

Naked Palette (original)

Okay, I know I’m a slacker when it comes to keeping up with my blog, and I have been meaning to do a post about this palette since I bought it last summer.  Now that the Naked 2 palette is out (which I happen to have also bought,) I figured it was high time to finally talk about the first Naked palette.  So I actually bought the first Naked Palette by Urban Decay last summer, after hearing lots of great reviews, and seeing some pretty fabulous looks with it.  At first I was like, “I can’t believe I just spent this much on eye shadows!” but then I told myself that I would use this palette everyday to do my shadow with, since there are SO MANY looks that you can make with it.  When I thought of it that way, then buying this collection of twelve shadows was pretty reasonable.  I was getting several eye looks in one.  Boy was I wrong!  The looks are ENDLESS with this!  Much more than just a few, or even “several”, there are TONS of eye looks you can make with this!  I am in love with all of these eye shadows!  Since I bought it last June, I have used it pretty much everyday, (with a few exceptions) and STILL find new looks to do with it.

This palette comes with a flat stiff brush for applying (or I’ve heard it called “packing on”) color to the lid.  This brush is great for picking up enough color and “packing” onto the lid over your primer.  Most all of these colors will work beautifully on many different skin colors (I’ve used them not only on myself, with an olive/yellow undertone, but on my bffs whose skin is much lighter and pinker than mine).  I’ll list the colors pictured in order:

Left to Right- Virgin, Sin, Naked, Sidecar, Buck, Half Baked, Smog, Darkhorse, Toasted, Hustle, Creep, Gunmetal.

You can see that one or two of the colors  have some glitter in them, (I don’t know why my camera was so blurry) which I usually don’t like to use, but if you don’t mind cleaning up a little bit around your eyes, then those colors are very wearable.  I think Sidecar has the most, and next to that would be Gunmetal, and then Creep.  The other two, (Gunmetal and Creep) you can’t really tell as much, so those colors work very well.

Here are just a couple of looks that I have done with this palette.  I would be happy to do some more looks with it!

The top look has more of a bronzy, brown look to it, while this one has some gray in it.  I’d love to do some video tutorials on a day look, and maybe a night, or going out look.

Yes, I DID buy the Naked 2 palette, which I will most likely do a video review on (hopefully!)  so check back for that!  Let me know your thoughts on this palette!  Have any of you bought it?  Do you like it?

Makeup Splurges

I have to confess that I do love makeup.  Doesn’t matter what kind day I’m having, there’s something soothing to me about twenty shades of eyeshadow and lipstick, and thinking of all the creative, fun looks you can make with them.  Makeup shopping is always an instant pick me up.  Every once in awhile, I will actually go makeup shopping with a bigger purpose, and when I do, it’s usually for a few bigger, more expensive items that I need.  While there are a few less expensive brands that I like, and use, some of the higher end makeup brands are, to me, worth investing in.  Yes, I’m guilty of splurging on makeup.  It’s not all bad though, since some of the high end, professional makeup is definitely worth spending on.  So, the question is, when should you save, and when is it okay to splurge?  Most everyone has certain brands they like, or are faithful to, and I guess I’m no different, although I’ve found that trying new things can be fun, and many times these new products (yes, the more expensive ones) become my new favs.  I’ve put together a list of makeup items that I, myself, find worth splurging on.  While some people may not use all of these products in your daily routine, (I use most of them when doing my princess character makeup), you might try adding one or two to your makeup bag for special occasions, or date nights.  Most of these are pretty basic items that you’ll find yourself reaching for time and time again.    I’ll post links on where to buy at the bottom:

Priming your face before applying makeup will not only give you face a smooth and even finish, but it fills in pores and fine lines, so your getting the best use out of your foundation.  This is something I don’t normally wear everyday (depending on how much time I have), but I find that it really does make a difference when I use it.  It also helps my makeup wear better throughout the day, and keeps it looking pretty darn fresh, (not that I would know anything about taking a nap in my makeup, then waking up to go out to dinner, because that’s just wrong…okay, so maybe I have done that).

This is one item that is a necessity for me.  I tend to keep dark circles under my eyes, so having a good concealer is a must.  I use this to cover imperfections, and blemishes as well, and the redness around my nose (because for some reason even my beige-olive complexion gets red around there).  If I’m having a “no makeup day” or pool day, I usually put on a little concealer.  Some days I wish it really lived up to it’s name, and would “conceal” me so I would be invisible.  Maybe someone should make a Harry Potter line of cosmetics, and the concealer would of course be called “Invisibility Cloak”.  (I totally want to do that now).  (Btw I love Benefit’s Erase Paste!  A little really does go a long way.)

As the names says, foundation is what most of us start with when applying makeup.  It helps even everything out, and gives a fresh canvas to build any makeup look upon.  Some people prefer powder foundation, but I go with liquid.  Even though I actually have combo/oily skin, to me, powder foundations are too dry and cakey (sorry to all of the Bare Minerals lovers!) and I have tried to like them, but I always end up going back to liquid.  Now, don’t get me wrong.  There are great powder foundations out there, that work wonderfully for people.  I just happen to not be one of those people.  Okay, so liquid foundation is probably my greatest “splurge” makeup item (next to the Naked pallets from Urban Decay…which is an entirely different story, of which I will cover in a different post).  Even when I don’t use an actual foundation, I still usually apply a tinted moisturizer which is a good bit lighter than regular liquid foundation.  But, I’m not going to tell you that tinted moisturizer is one of my “splurge” items, so, moving on.

Okay, we’ve all done it (well most of us…okay, so I have).  We want to keep our beautiful summer-kissed skin going, we see these oh-so-pretty-shimmery-beachy looking bronzers, packaged to look like someone took summer, put it in a glass case, and is just waiting for us to buy them, open them up, ooo, and ahhh, over how nicely the colors and details look together, and get all overly excited about making ourselves look like a sun Goddess.  So, we grab our brush, swirl it around in the shimmery sun spiraled middle, and apply it to our cheeks…and then, when we look in the mirror, expecting to see glistening, tanned cheek bones… find we are hideously DIRTY LOOKING!  *high pitched scream*  Wait?  How can that beautiful, beach-inspired, coconut fragrance, innocent looking bronzer make me look as though I went out, and grabbed handfuls of mud, and proceeded to smear it all over my cheeks?  That was NOT the look I was going for!  Well, good news beach babes (and wannabes) not only is the trick to getting bronzer to work in the application, (and trust me, application for any and all makeup is KEY to getting the most out of it…yet another topic to be covered at another time, and post) but it is also in choosing the right shade to compliment your skin tone.  That is crucial.  I have only found one or two drugstore brand bronzers that I like, and this past summer I decided to splurge on one high end brand that I had heard many good things about.  It is the best bronzer I have ever owned.  The color is perfect for me.  It’s the end of January and there are days that I still use it, instead of blush.

Well, that about wraps up my “must have” splurge items.  Now, I know that just because you read this, you are going to want to rush right out and blow money on all of these items…yeah right, I know money is tight for most of us, and honestly, even buying one or two of these may not be in your budget right now.  If you really want to try something, pick out one (or two) to save for, or reward yourself for loosing that 5 pounds at the end of the week (hey, it’s a lot less fattening than that cupcake), and decide for yourself if spending more on a staple product is really worth it.  Who knows?  You may find a new love (or hate…depending).  In any case have fun, and ~

Special FX Makeup is Fun

Yeah, it’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve had a chance to post anything new, and I apologize!  So the other day I had to get a friend of mine some Ben Nye makeup for a movie she’s working on, and I decided to pick up a bruise wheel for myself (I mean who doesn’t need a bruise wheel around just for kicks right?).  So I decided to do a short review and did a test bruise on my hand, then I decided to record a tutorial on how to make a bruise, and figured while I was at it I would show how to make a very simple scar using rigid collodion as well.  Here’s what I used for the bruise:

Each of the four swatched colors.

I just did a simple test bruise on my hand to try out each of the colors and here’s what it looked like:

So, I didn’t take any photos of the ridged collodion or the scar, but I will post a link to my tutorial video:

I’ll also post links on where to buy.  Let me know what you think!  Stay magical!

Makeup Removing Cleansers

Hello to everyday royals everywhere!  I have to confess something.  This is my first beauty product review.  Oh, I’ve done some Disney Dining reviews on forums here and there, but I’ve never actually reviewed anything else.  What has prompted this sudden urge to review anything else you ask?  Well, when you find something you really like, you like to share it, right?  Such is the case.  So, I am going to talk about a product that I recently bought, tried, and decided it actually did what it says it does.

Now I love makeup, but taking it off is sometimes not the easiest thing in the world to do.  Especially when it’s 1 am, and you start to wash your face, and realize that the face wash you’re using isn’t meant to take off your eye makeup, and so instead of just having eyeliner and mascara getting in your eyes and running down your face, you now have bright red eyes, as your cleanser has burned your eyes out, and still hasn’t taken the first little bit of eyeshadow off.  Yeah, sometimes I’m just too lazy to get out that extra step of eye-makeup remover, and actually use it before I clean the rest of my face (but I’m certain none of the rest of you have ever done that, now have you).  I used to use this fabulous product made my Clean & Clear that took everything off in one step, and it really worked!  Now, why is it that when you really, really, like something, they either discontinue it or you can’t find it all of a sudden?  I’ve never really figured that out.  Alas, I can no longer find it, and so I have been forced to try to find something else that works like a charm, as it once did.  I’ve tried several products (even some high end) that promised to rid my face of all the makeup, grime, and even mascara “all in one easy step”, only to find that they left traces of makeup still on my face that only my clarifying lotion could take off.  Not only that, but some of them made me break out, which I was not at all happy about (hey, a Princess can’t have zits)!  The only thing that really seemed to get my makeup off were  makeup removing face wipes, and although they worked, they felt oily and I found myself washing with a different cleanser after.  Okay, enough jibber-jabber, on to my review!

I really like my everyday Pink Grapefruit cleanser made by Neutrogena, so last week I bought this new makeup removing cleanser to give it a try.  I will admit I was skeptical.  Here’s what it promised:

gentle makeup remover
One Step Gentle Cleanser does double-duty as a cleanser and makeup remover.

This rich, silky foaming formula combines the cleansing power of a face wash with the effectiveness of a makeup remover. The single-step approach shaves minutes off your bedtime beauty routine.

  • Rich, silky formula cleans skin without stripping moisture
  • Rinses completely clean
  • Dermatologist tested
  • Hypoallergenic
They were right on the money!  The first time I used this cleanser, not only did it take off all traces of my makeup, including mascara, but it did exactly what they said!  It was a silky texture that creates a light foam and rinses off leaving your skin feeling very clean and NOT OILY!
When I went over my face with my clarifying lotion, there were no traces of makeup, or even dirt or oil!  Not only that, but for aorund $7.00, the price can’t be beat! I knew I had found just the nightly cleanser I had been searching for.  Now, I only hope it stays around for a long time!  So if you’re looking for a non-greasy, non-oily makeup remover that takes off makeup and mascara, I highly recommend Neutrogena’s One Step Gentle Cleanser.  I will post links where you can buy below.  Hope my review was helpful!
